Circle of Security is a program designed to help caregivers and those who support families understand your child’s emotional world by learning to read the emotional needs, support the child’s ability to successfully manage emotions, enhance the development of the child's self-esteem, and honor the caregiver's innate wisdom and desire for their child to be secure.
My Tween & Me is a program that provides parents and their children, aged 7 through 12, with the knowledge, tools, and support they need during the child's transition into adolescence by strengthening parent-child communication, this program helps develop the parent's confidence and ability to positively influence their children.
Nobody’s Perfect is an education and support program for parents of children from birth to age five, designed to meet the needs of parents. Parents participate in a facilitated learning process that enhances their knowledge and understanding of their child’s behaviour and development, builds upon their skills, and provides them with practical parenting information.
The Strengthening Families Program is a family skills training program for high-risk and general population families. Parents and youth attend skills classes together, learning parenting skills and youth life and refusal skills.
Free tax clinics are hosted by community organizations across Canada through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program. Our tax clinic is available by walk-in and appointment for eligible individuals with a simple tax situation.
We assist those who are:
- Individuals or families that are low income
-Seniors
-Persons with disabilities
Houston Community Services is one of 450 organizations within British Columbia hosting a free tax clinic. There are 2,340 registered volunteers province wide that assisted 105,890 individuals file 126,690 returns for 2023.
Tax returns must be filed before the CRA deadline of April 30th to avoid any changes to those receiving Child Tax Benefits, GST, CPP, GIS, and/or OAS.

Funded by the Government of BC, research provided United Way and the Government with a profile of period poverty in BC. 1600 people responded to a public survey where they shared how period poverty impacts their life and access to community. Outlining the impact of not having access to menstrual products and the benefits of being able to find free products in community organizations. United Way’s Period Promise campaign is committed to making it easier for everybody to access the product they need, when they need it.
Facts from the Research Project
•51% indicated that they had struggled to purchase products for themselves.
• 26% indicated they had gone through a period without having menstrual products available to them.
• 18% indicated that they missed school, 22% work, 29% community events, and 27% social events when they didn’t have access.
• Nearly 75% indicated that having access to products at community organizations allows them to be more engaged in their community.
